This website, machinewitness.eu, and the MachineWitness archive are operated by:
Who is behind it
The archive is built and operated by Martin Schenk, engineer (Dipl.-Ing. (FH), automation engineering), who has lived and worked in Madrid for over thirty years. He develops and runs the entire system: crawler, sealing, anchoring, and the two witnesses. The technical work, and the documents this archive issues, are produced with the help of AI under human supervision.
Benjamin Schlunk, Jurist (Rechtsreferendar, German legal trainee), accompanies the project in legal matters. He studied law in Göttingen with a focus on commercial law. His role is to review this archive's own legal position — its lawful basis, its deletion procedure, and how its records should be described. He does not advise users of this archive, and nothing this archive issues is legal advice or an opinion on anyone's case.
What this site is
MachineWitness is an independent, evidentiary archive of the machine-readable web in the European Union. Each day it records what public domains serve to machines (crawler rules and text-and-data-mining opt-out declarations) and seals that record cryptographically so it can be verified later. It is a record, not advice, and it takes no side in any dispute. See our Terms of Use.
Governing law
The operator is established in Spain. This site and the services described are subject to Spanish law, in particular Law 34/2002 on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (LSSI-CE). This notice is provided in English, the sole language of the site.
Responsibility for content
We take care that the information on this site is accurate. Statements about the archive describe what the system actually does; where a capability is not yet in operation, this is stated. The published record and the method to verify it are the authoritative source.
External links
Where we link to third-party websites, we have no control over their content and accept no responsibility for it. Responsibility lies with the respective operators.
Intellectual property
The wording, design, and code of this site are the property of Martin Schenk S.L., except where third-party material is identified. The published daily fingerprints (root log) and the documented verification method may be freely used to verify records; see the Terms of Use for details.
Reporting a crawler or requesting removal
If you operate a domain and have questions about our crawler, want to be excluded from crawling, or wish to have a record removed, see the Crawler & contact page or write to contact@machinewitness.eu.
