How many EU domains serve an llms.txt
In the week from 10 to 17 October 2026, 9,035 of 128,315 domains with an EU ending (7.04 %) served a file at /llms.txt in the form the proposal describes: a text file that begins with a Markdown heading.
What was counted
/llms.txt is a proposal from 2024 (llmstxt.org): a Markdown file that tells language models what a site contains. It is not a standard and not a reservation against text and data mining. This archive fetches the path at the root of every domain it observes, every day, on two independently operated witnesses (what that record shows).
- Domains: those from the Tranco list of the most visited domains worldwide (top one million) with one of the 27 EU country endings or
.eu. The ending is not the country of the operator. - Answer: for each domain the most recent answer in the window;
wwwand the bare domain count as one. - Base: all 128,315 domains, because the question is whether a file is there at all. 20,804 answered with status 200; 664 of those were empty.
- Form: a file counts as the proposal's form when its first line is a Markdown heading (
# Name), the one element the proposal requires. HTML under the path, by content type or by content, is not counted.
Counted is the format, not the content: whether a file is accurate, complete, or read by any model is not part of the figure. Every answer in the window was read, 2,059 of them from the archive's cold storage.
What comes next
From the November 2026 issue, llms.txt is a series of its own in the monthly figures, beside the robots.txt reservations and the homepage head, with the same method and its own version number. The totals of this page as data: llms-txt-2026-10.json.
These figures count. They do not rate anyone.
